Allen Litten: The Valley’s Observer, April 2019 – September 2019.
Allen Litten has been photographing the events of Harrisonburg and the surrounding area for over 60 years, spending much of that time with the Daily News-Record newspaper. Guest Curator Daniel Robinson, Institute of Visual Studies, James Madison University, provided insight into Litten’s keen eye and recurring themes as seen in images of our community. A celebration of photography as art and visual history!

Aa sudden rain storm canceled a track meet. Litten’s eye for the interesting landed on this trio of departing spectators.

The restaurant had a window at parking lot level. While its owners were inside eating, the steer escaped the truck and went through the window. Its hooves could not manage the slick floor.

What is happening here? While the Fire Department trained with a planned burn, a neighbor protected the rose garden.
